Tonight, we want to talk about the power of “un-affiliation”; a term used by the late curator Okwui Enwezor to mark the general distrust in institutions and all sorts of bureaucracy in arts and activism. We invite to the digital table: The tireless friends from Kültürhane, Mersin, artists and hosts from Sübkültür, Bayreuth talking about the origins and development of the space, the community of the Sophiatown Arts Festival, and other collectives from all over the world.
We want to hear from everyone: How important is the positioning as off, free, un-affiliated for you? What has the time of enforced distance – a new experience in some contexts, an old one in others – done to your work? How to defend public space in times of (political) lockdown? How do you keep the networks running, how do you organise – and what did we learn from the past weeks, months – and years? So much to talk about!
